Rotary hears about the Dept of Public Health

In her first meeting as Club President, Becky Patterson pulled that microphone down to a reasonable level and read a thoughtful thank-you card from Kyle Basten. Basten was our student representative to RYLA, which was held at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. He is the son of Rotarian Sue Basten and Tom Basten.

It was great to hear about all the ways that the Washington County Dept. of Public Health affects and impacts our lives. Thank you to Danielle Pettit-Majewski, the new Director, for her presentation. Please invite her back and encourage her to become a Rotarian!

Becky Patterson debuted a new tradition for the year. For a number of years, Rotary has thanked its speakers by donating a book in their name to the Washington Public Library. Becky is now getting the books ahead of time and asking our speakers to sign the book that the Club donates. Nice.

Last week was also Washington County Fair week. Rotarians John Moenck and Ed Lins ruled the gates with an iron first. "Maybe you'll get an ice cream cone at the end of your shift... and maybe you won't..."

Rotarians and friends huddle under a gate tent on Friday night during a rain storm. The Demolition Derby went on after the rain!
