"Ann Harris and Paul Horak were the chairs for the first Rotary Turkey

Dinner held 25 years ago (1995).  Thanks for their leadership in this project that

has continued to be our major fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Washington.

Members shared some "history" surrounding the annual dinner and had some

laughs as well.  September 3 is our "Count Day" for tickets so please bring

Enegry Assessments & Turkey Dinner Assignments

TURKEY DINNER UPDATE - from Nancy Rash

The program on August 27th will be all about the 25th Annual Rotary Turkey Dinner! Please plan to attend to learn more about preparing and serving the dinner.  This is your opportunity to ask questions.  The shift assignments have been made and a big thank you to all members for working.  Please let me know if I have omitted any member! 

If you have a spouse or student that would like to assist, please contact me.  Members not working are assessed a $20 fee (I'm looking at you Kent) and all members pay a $20 pie assessment to pay for the 85+ homemade pies that we purchase for the dinner.  

Plan to wear your moisture-wicking Rotary shirt on September 14th.  We pre-sell tickets and will be getting your ticket sale count on September 3.

Sell your 10+ tickets. Just ask some people. They'll buy some. Really.

ALLIANT ENERGY - SMALL BUSINESS ENERGY ASSESSMENT

Thanks to Larry Fishback for inviting Kristen Weaverling to talk to the club about Alliant Energy's small business energy assessments. It has been a successful program that has helped many small businesses to make improvements and to understand how efficient they could be.

This is the first step toward implementing an energy efficiency project like upgraded lighting or solar.

TURKEY DINNER UPDATE - from Nancy Rash

"September 14 is the Annual Rotary Turkey Dinner.  Most tickets have been distributed but please come to the meeting on August 20th to pick up your tickets or ask for more to sell!  If each member sells/purchases 14 tickets we will meet our goal of serving 700 dinners.  The final ticket sales count and money is due at the meeting September 3.   The work assignments will be coming soon.  Thanks to Terry Engelken and Ryan Walker for stepping up to assist with the grilling.  

I visited Bob Ruppert after his hospital stay.  With a strong belief and commitment to Rotary, Bob is wanting to help with ticket sales!  Keep him in your thoughts as he gains his strength back."

Rotary exchange student, Andrés Bravo arrived on Sunday in Cedar Rapids and was met by Don and Becky Patterson. Andrés is from Ecuador and will be a student in the Washington School District.

BOB BARTLES

Thanks to Ray Poe for inviting Bob Bartles, past president of the Burlington Rotary to speak. Bob is employed with Hope Haven, a nonprofit that helps persons with disabilities in southeast Iowa. 

The focus of his talk was a Rotary project to purchase medical equipment for a hospital in Lebanon that serves refugees.
