Rotary Blood Drive

Paul Horak gave the program this week about the upcoming Rotary Blood Drive, through the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. The blood drive will be Thursday, February 21st, from 1:30-6:30 at the UP Church in Washington. Volunteers are needed to make calls to recruit donors in the next few week. Volunteers are also needed the day of to set up, work shifts to welcome donors and sit at the cookie table, tear down after the drive, and volunteers are needed to make cookies to bring for the blood drive. If you have not signed up to help and would like to, please contact Paul. Paul is also looking for a volunteer to help chair this event next year, and take over for him in the coming years.

Sue Basten reminded the club that we are currently seeking nominees for RYLA. The chosen students will attend a week long seminar in July to build their leadership skills. Applicants must be high school sophomores or juniors.

Teri Hartzler asked for donations on behalf of the Y to add games and activities specifically for teenagers who spend time at the Y. This may include pool tables, Foosball tables, and other games.

Please remember to get out there and sell some Daffodils! Forms are due back to Susan or Laura by February 28th.

Daffodil Sales

It's that time of year again to get out and sell some daffodils. Susan Wellington and Bob Freeman talked to the club today about how the Washington and Wellman Rotary clubs got involved with the daffodil sales. This was originally a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and was done nationwide. It was not profitable on such a large scale, but Washington county had success and wanted to continue the project independently. The Rotary clubs decided to continue the fundraiser, with half of the money raised going to the Washington County Relay For Life, and the other half staying in the Rotary clubs to be used for other service projects. Sales begin today, and are due back to Susan Wellington or Laura Bombei by February 28th. Daffodils will be in for distribution March 11th.
