LaDonna Wicklund spoke about Rotary Literacy initiatives

Thanks to Don Patterson for having LaDonna Wicklund of the Iowa City Rotary Club to speak about the District 6000 "Legacy of Literacy" initiative. LaDonna is also active in the Rotary District 6000 Xicotepec Project

LaDonna is also an entrepreneur that founded I Can Read Songs.

Climate Change heats up Rotary

Phil Rabinowitz informed the club that he has accepted an engineering position at an company on the east coast. This isn't his last Rotary club meeting in Washington, but close. Thanks for being a great part of Washington Rotary, Phil!

PISARIK TALKS CLIMATE CHANGE


Thanks to Ray Poe for having Washington High School science teacher, Joe Pisarik come to speak about climate change.

TSALIKA SCHMOOZES AT PETS


Tsalika Drown attended the 2015 PETS conference in Rochester, MN. "PETS" stands for North Central President Elect Training Seminar.

She got to network with Rotary International leaders like 2015-16 RI President Elect, Ravi Ravindran of Sri Lanka.

Camp Courageous and Iowa Bicycle Coalition

March means spring and also the Rotary District 6000 Annual Conference, which this year is Thursday, April 16 through Saturday, April 18 at the Coralville Marriott.  Earlybird registration for the event ends March 13, so register! The Club will pick up Earlybird registrations, so no excuses.

Please consider attending the Friday, April 17th Rotary Lunch from 11:45-1:10 at the Marriott. The keynote speaker will be Big-12 Conference Commissioner, Bob Bowlsby.

You can find the Conference Schedule and the 1-page Registration Form in the lower left hand corner of the Conference web site. Lots of good stuff and great sessions.

Thanks to Ed Lins for having Charlie Becker give a wonderful presentation on Camp Courageous on March 5th. Charlie has dedicated his life to the camp and is a leader in the region and especially Jones County.

Camp Courageous of Iowa is a year-round respite care and recreational facility for individuals of all ages with disabilities. The camp was established in 1972 with the first 211 campers attending in the summer of 1974.  Today, Camp Courageous serves nearly 7,000 individuals with disabilities are served in a year-round program.

The mission of Camp Courageous is to provide exceptional year-round recreational and respite care opportunities for individuals with special needs and their families. The camp is run primarily on donations, giving all individuals the opportunity to give through gifts of time, materials, money, and other means that support the camp.
